On 3 May 2025, the attorney of imprisoned Karakalpak activist Dauletmurat Tajimuratov was denied access to his client at Penal Colony No. 11. The prison administration claimed that Tajimuratov had refused to meet, yet failed to provide any written statement or video confirmation of this alleged refusal.
During a subsequent visit on 10 May, the lawyer was finally allowed to meet Tajimuratov, who revealed he had been brutally beaten on 29 April 2025 at 8:00 AM by fellow inmates identified as Kenzhebek, Luli, Yuldashali, and Vakhob. He lost consciousness during the assault and regained it in the prison hospital, where he remained for three days. No medical treatment, no injections, tablets, or proper care were provided to him during this time. Despite visible physical weakness, the prison doctor declared his blood pressure and temperature to be “normal” and discharged him without further examination.
Following his release from the hospital, Tajimuratov was bedridden for six days, unable to eat. Neither medical staff nor guards checked on his condition or showed concern for his refusal to eat. He reported this neglect, but no one took action.
Tajimuratov was later approached by a fellow inmate, Samoraddin Rajabov, reportedly a prison informant, who warned him to behave or risk being transferred to the harsher Block 3. Rajabov allegedly instructed Tajimuratov to sing the Uzbek national anthem and the regime-loyalist song “Uzbekning Asl Farzandiman” (“I Am a True Son of Uzbekistan”) as a show of obedience.
Tajimuratov is currently suffering from headaches and dizziness, though no visible bruises remain, as beatings are reportedly inflicted in ways that avoid leaving marks. Notably, the mandatory biannual medical checkups carried out for other inmates are systematically denied to him.
This latest development underscores continued systematic abuse and isolation of Dauletmurat Tajimuratov, raising urgent concerns about his safety and the role of prison authorities in suppressing his spirit through physical and psychological pressure.
Freedom for Eurasia urgently calls on the Government of Uzbekistan to provide immediate and adequate medical treatment for Dauletmurat Tajimuratov and ensure his safety through transfer to the special Penal Colony 22, designated for former state officials, as he requested in 2024, as a former state official.
