URGENT: Karakalpak activist Saadatdin Reimov must be released early due to health concerns.

Saadatdin Reimov, a 57-year-old human rights activist from Karakalpakstan, currently serving a sentence in penal colony number 34, “Manzil” in Kamashi district, Kashkadaria region, Uzbekistan. Reimov recently suffered partial paralysis of the left side of his body, indicating a severe medical condition and possibly a stroke. Despite the critical nature of his condition, the penal colony has failed to provide the necessary medical treatment, leading to further deterioration of his health. Freedom for Eurasia posted about the deterioration of Reimov’s health, which his wife, Kalbike Sidavlaeva, shared.

Under Article 75 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, inmates suffering from severe illnesses are eligible for release from serving the remainder of their sentence. Following Article 165 of the Penal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, prisoners have the right to early release if their health condition makes it impossible to continue serving their sentence. Given Saadatdin Reimov’s partial paralysis, the lack of proper medical attention, and the risk of further health decline, immediate release is essential so he can receive the necessary treatment in an appropriate environment.

Freedom for Eurasia calls on the competent authorities of Uzbekistan to act with humanity and respect for human rights by immediately releasing Saadatdin Reimov. This action would align with national legislation and international human rights standards.
