Uzbek Authorities Deny Family Visit to Imprisoned Human Rights Defender Dauletmurat Tajimuratov

On January 12, 2026 Uzbek Authorities Cancel Family Visit of Imprisoned Human Rights Defender Dauletmurat Tajimuratov Without Prior Warning

Freedom for Eurasia has received information that the family of Dauletmurat Tajimuratov arrived at his prison for a scheduled long visit, only to be informed that it had been cancelled and that he had been punished for alleged “systematic violations of internal regulations.” According to prison authorities, Tajimuratov used his own personal money to purchase tea and share it with other prisoners. When he was told its is not allowed Tajimuratov stated that he had the right to decide how to spend his personal funds. Following this, an official disciplinary report was issued and his family visit was denied.

This latest measure reflects a continuing pattern of punitive and disproportionate treatment with use of absurd reasons for punishment against Tajimuratov, a Karakalpak human rights defender imprisoned for his peaceful civic activism. Human rights organizations and his relatives have previously documented that he has been subjected to physical and psychological abuse, isolation, restrictions on communication with his family and lawyers, inadequate medical care, and degrading detention and working conditions.

The denial of family contact as a form of punishment raises serious concerns about violations of Tajimuratov’s fundamental rights and appears aimed at further pressuring, demoralising and silencing him. Freedom for Eurasia demands that the Uzbek authorities to immediately end the mistreatment of Dauletmurat Tajimuratov, ensure respect for his human dignity, and guarantee his rights in line with international human rights standards.
